Michael A. Thomas, FASID, CAPS is an award winning, accomplished designer and seasoned businessman with a special interest in creating environments that are functional, practical and uncomplicated, personally bringing his nearly 40 years of design expertise + knowledge to each of his projects.
He has been quoted and had his work published in a variety of national media including The Houston Chronicle, Palm Springs Life, Time Magazine, Dwell Magazine, The Desert Sun, Florida Home + Garden, Christian Science Monitor and the Miami Herald and has been featured on a HG-TV and the Travel Channel video story about one of his awarding winning projects.
Michael has passed the National Council For Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam and is a Professional Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). He has been an active volunteer for ASID as Chapter President, Council Chair, and a national board director with financial oversight. Michael was elected to serve as ASID's National President in 2010~2011 for the professional organization.
In 2004, he was inducted into ASID's College of Fellows, the highest award the Society gives one of its members. Recently, ASID acknowledged his lifelong commitment to the profession and Society by nominating him for a Lifetime Award.
Michael is the co-author of Residential Design For Aging In Place, the first book to address the accessible design of homes for some 76 million baby boomers. In addition, he is a "Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist," an accredited design professional that specializes in creating safe and secure home and work environments, no matter age or ability.
He is a well-known speaker and has taught over 250 workshops + seminars all over the country for consumers, interior designers, builders + architects on such topics as universal design, business principles and practices, and contracts and fees. Michael co-authored a continuing education course entitled "Ethics and All That Jazz" which won a National Service Award from Associations Advance America for its relevant content.
